Sterling Silver Elder Twig Bangle
Pickup available at Element Isle Shop
Description
In Manx tradition, elder, or tramman, was planted beside cottages and its leaves placed at doors and windows to protect the home. The twig for this bangle was gathered from a tree near the ancient site of Balladoole here on the Island. Through lost wax casting, its twists and the ridges of its bark have been carried into sterling silver, letting the tree itself shape the bangle’s natural line.
The bangle follows the curve of the twig around your wrist, beautiful worn on its own or layered with other pieces.
P.s..... And don't worry... we followed the customs and asked permission to the 'little folk' before taking a twig from a tree. There’s a Manx folklore belief that fairies lived in elder trees, and that disturbing them could bring trouble, so asking them for permission before taking the twig is very important. This same custom is known in other areas of the British Isles where permission is needed from 'Mother Elder', and it is also found in areas of Scandinavia too!
